Swim hawks

Well, another season of high school swimming is over. While the glee on my face might indicate otherwise, it is indeed a bittersweet time. A few visual highlights from team photo day and the season.

Total D.B.

From recent headlines:

Dad Charged With Tattooing 3-Year-Old Son
ROME, Ga. -- A Floyd County man is out of jail Tuesday after being charged with child cruelty after police said he tattooed his three-year-old son...The tattoo was discovered by workers from the Department of Family and Childrens Services after someone complained about conditions at the Ashley home. Ashley said he was drunk and doesn’t remember tattooing the letters “DB,” for Daddy’s Boy, (really, b/c when I hear DB, something else comes to mind!) on his son’s shoulder blade. The boy’s mother said she wasn’t present for the tattooing. Amy Ashley said she found out after the Easter weekend that her husband had tattooed the initials on their son.

Who you gonna call?

Ghostbusters! I read the below blurb about Ghostbusters III today and I am intrigued.

"Twenty years after the release of Ghostbusters II, the original cast will reunite for a second sequel to the 1984 classic. Ghostbusters 3 could be in production as early as winter, said Dan Aykroyd, who confirmed that original cast members Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson are on board for the project. The script is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writing team behind the upcoming Jack Black/Michael Cera movie Year One. Not surprisingly, the premise of the movie will be a new generation of Ghostbusters taking over the duties of the aging team. “I'd like it to be a passing-of-the-torch movie”, said Aykrod. “Let's revisit the old characters briefly and happily and have them there as family but let's pass it on to a new generation.” The details of story have not been decided, but Aykroyd is hoping the new team will include several female members."

I did see the trailer for Year One in the theater recently. Given my love for Jack Black and Michael Cera I'm sure I'll see that, but the TBD in question is: will I appreciate the actors or the writing, or both of Year One, and how will that influence my expectations management for G3?

Go Eaters!

I received a letter in the mail as receipt that my deposit for grad school was received. My favorite part was that the envelope was stamped with "Go Eaters". That's right, come this fall I will be an MBAnteater.

Sad.

I received a call from a friend this morning (in Boston) that the Longfellow Chapel burnt down. The reports indicate that everyone got out safely. There is no official word yet on how the fire started. There were a lot of bodies in the building due to the Stake Conference broadcast. Obviously it's terrific news that everyone is safe. I don't envy the headaches that will come from figuring out where everyone will meet in the interim of rebuilding and I hope that all will be calm and comforted with feelings of peace and safety that only the spirit can bring. In recognizing that this happened under the watchful and protective hands of Heavenly Father, who I am confident orchestrated a safe evacuations of all, I am reminded of the miracles in my own life, MANY of which occurred in that building. It was first my chapel in fall 1997 as a freshman in college, and remained so until I left Boston in August 2006. I have many memories from, and in, that building, many of which are still so fresh in my mind and vivid in details. A link to a photo gallery on Boston.com.

QB1

I stopped watching Grey's Anatomy after Denny died, and not b/c Denny died, but b/c I was "over" the story line. A lot of folks stopped watching, however a lot of people stayed plugged in. Good for them! To each his own ... show. (N.B. Burn Notice starts up again on June 4!) Anyway, I'm thankful that two of the loyalists keep the show in queue on the DVR downstairs, BECAUSE (drum roll ....) I got to see Matt Saracen (a.k.a Zach Gilford) on the season finale.

Oh how I love love love QB1. And yes, I will go see Post Grad, probably on opening night, simply because he's in it. If I can't have a real-life crush, I'll entertain my tween-esque celebrity crush.

The dishes are done man!

My last application to grad school was submitted last night. It is a very liberating feeling. Of course now it's on to the waiting game, but I have enough distractions with my job, coaching (although the season wraps up in two weeks), and half marathon/wasatch back training, and catching up with friends, that any anxiety will be assuaged. I've started to integrate myself back into the social word, since my hiatus. First step was supporting our ward's powderpuff team on Saturday. I wasn't able to play this year due to coaching obligations but I did manage to catch a little more than half of the game, which resulted in a win - evident by my enthusiasm! (Or maybe that's my optimistic energy that I channeled to the Celtics for their win of game 7!)

Time to Casch in!

Spent last weekend in Utah with one little Mr. Casch. I think this picture represents the fun of the weekend. What? It's not my fault that my brothers and their wives happen to make cute kids!
